Eye Health Nurse applies eye drops to client

The Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI), established in 1910, is one of the oldest continually operating agencies in New Jersey state government. Its wide range of educational services for children, vocational rehabilitation services for older teens and adults, and independent living services for people of all ages are available to the estimated 140,000 people in New Jersey who are blind or visually impaired.

Would You Like to Be an Eye Health Nurse?
At the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI), we employ RNs to be our specialists in providing comprehensive eye health services in the State of NJ to clients who have some acute or chronic visual impairment, or who are legally or totally blind.

Our committed regional staff nurses monitor, evaluate, and determine appropriate eye health needs. They assure the delivery of essential eye health care services to eligible recipients and assure the quality of the services being provided. Our nurses act as consultants in assisting the Department to adhere to State and Federal standards; they promote, initiate, and monitor CBVI programs for preventing blindness.

Using the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation our nurses provide the specialized care needed by people who have visual complications from diabetes and hypertension. In addition, effective diabetes education is a vital part of an Eye Health Nurse's job as is teaching the clients strategies in diabetes self management using adaptive techniques.

If you are looking for a different kind of nursing that involves going out into the field and implementing the Commission's goals for this particular population, give us a call or send us your resume. We would love to hear from you!
