Exploring Timbuctoo: A Community’s Legacy in New Jersey History
In honor of Black History Month, the DMAVA DEIB Division partnered with Timbuctoo of Westampton, NJ, a historical African American society. Founded in 1826, the settlement reached its peak population of 125 residents. Guy Weston, the Managing Director of Timbuctoo and a direct descendant of the town’s founders, shared a powerful presentation about its history and heritage, offering an insightful look into this unique part of New Jersey's past.
From Bias to Belonging: A Disability Pride Month Conversation
For Disability Pride Month, the DMAVA DEIB Division partnered with Easterseals NJ for an impactful presentation titled From Bias to Belonging. The session featured Brian Fitzgerald, President and CEO of Easterseals NJ and retired Army Captain, who shared his personal journey. Other key speakers included Audra Zammit, Director of Workforce Development; Shari Dua, Business Developer; Katherine Bartie, ASL Interpreter; and BreeAnn Fox, Vocational Evaluator and ASL Instructor. This powerful event highlighted strategies for fostering inclusion, addressing biases, and promoting accessibility in the workplace.

Two counselors from the NJ Civil Service Commission EAS (Employee Advisory Service) joined us at the Lawrenceville Headquarters. They shared with us all of the services EAS has to offer as well as an important presentation on Suicide Awareness and Prevention.
