Filing Court-Ordered Name Changes

Court-ordered name changes must be filed with the Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services within 45 business days from the date approved by the court.

After receiving your original copy of the Final Judgement, you must submit the court order to the Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services.

Statutory Fee: $50

Additional Certified Copy Ordered at the Time of Filing (Optional): $25
If paying by check or money order, make payable to: "Treasurer, State of New Jersey"

Request Copies of Previously Filed Name Changes

Access to Judgments Filed 1948 to Present

The Division may grant exceptions to the confidentiality provision if you are the individual who obtained the name change judgment, an authorized representative of the individual, or a public official with a valid governmental reason to access the judgment. To request a copy, you may submit a Good Cause Exception form , along with the required documentation.

Name Changes Filed Before the Year 1948

If you need a court order from New Jersey before 1948, the New Jersey State Archives is the primary repository for these records. You can search the New Jersey State Archives catalog online to locate specific case numbers, dates, or subjects for Legal Name Changes filed between 1847-1947.
