Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 179
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 179 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Hunterdon County:
NOTE: State Highway NJ 179 is under Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) jurisdiction from approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.11.
NOTE: State Highway Route NJ 179 is coincident with State Highway Route NJ 29 from approximate mileposts 0.32 to 0.37.
  i.  In the City of Lambertville:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 25 MPH between the northerly end of the Delaware Bridge (New Jersey Department of Transportation – Delaware Bridge Joint Toll Bridge Commission jurisdictional line) and Route NJ 165 (including coincident Route NJ 29 section mileposts 18.87 to 18.89) (approximate mileposts 0.11 to 0.37); thence
NOTE: Route NJ 179 from the southerly intersection of Route NJ 29 (Main Street) to the northerly intersection of Route NJ 29 (approximate mileposts 0.32 to 0.37) is coincident with Route NJ 29 (approximate mileposts 18.87 to 18.89).  See Route NJ 29 for speed limit in this section; thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Bridge Street-Route NJ 165 and Hancock Street (approximate mileposts 0.37 to 0.60); thence
(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between Hancock Street and the City of Lambertville-Township of West Amwell corporate line (approximate mileposts 0.60 to 0.90); thence
  ii.  In the Township of West Amwell:
(1) For both directions of traffic
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the City of Lambertville-West Amwell Township corporate line  and Woodward Avenue (approximate mileposts 0.90 to 1.14); thence
(B) Zone 2: 50 MPH between Woodward Avenue and the southernmost West Amwell Township-East Amwell Township corporate line (53 feet south of Cedar Crest Drive) except for 35 MPH when passing through the West Amwell Elementary School zone (approximate mileposts 2.18 to 2.31) while “35 MPH when Flashing” signs are operating during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 1.14 to 4.47); thence
(2) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the southernmost West Amwell Township- East Amwell Township corporate line (53 feet south of Cedar Crest Drive) and the West Amwell Township- East Amwell Township corporate line 740 feet south of the southernmost intersection with Route US 202 (approximate mileposts 4.47 to 5.44 ); thence
(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between the southernmost West Amwell Township- East Amwell Township corporate line 1,110 feet north of the southernmost intersection with Route US 202 and 250 feet south of Melbourne Lane (approximate milepost 5.79 to 6.09); thence
 (C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between 250 feet south of Melbourne Lane and the northernmost West Amwell Township-East Amwell Township corporate line (Melbourne Lane) (approximate mileposts 6.09 to 6.14); thence
  iii.  In the Township of East Amwell:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the southernmost West Amwell Township- East Amwell Township corporate line and the West Amwell Township-East Amwell Township corporate line 740 feet south of the southernmost intersection with Route US 202 (Approximate mileposts 4.47 to 5.44); thence  
(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between the West Amwell Township-East Amwell Township corporate line 1,110 feet north of the southernmost intersection with Route US 202 and 250 feet south of Melbourne Lane (approximate mileposts 5.79 and 6.09); thence
(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between 250 feet south of Melbourne Lane and the northernmost West Amwell Township-East Amwell Township corporate line (Melbourne Lane) (approximate mileposts 6.09 to 6.14); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
  (A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the West Amwell-East Amwell Township corporate line 740 feet south of the southernmost intersection with Route US 202 and the southernmost intersection with Route US 202 (approximate mileposts 5.44 to 5.58); thence
  (B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between the southernmost intersection of Route US 202 and the West Amwell Township-East Amwell Township corporate line 110 feet north of the southernmost intersection of Route US 202 (approximate mileposts 5.58 to 5.79); thence
  (C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between the northernmost West Amwell Township-East Amwell Township corporate line (Melbourne Lane) and 700 feet north of Melbourne Lane (approximate mileposts 6.14 to 6.27); thence
(D) Zone 4: 50 MPH between the southernmost East Amwell- West Amwell corporate line for the southbound lane and Back BK. (approximate mile posts 4.47 to 6.16) ; thence
(E) Zone 5: 35 MPH between 400 feet south of Larison Lane and 400 feet north of Larison Lane (approximate mileposts 6.72 to 6.88); thence
(F) Zone 6: 40 MPH between 400 feet north of Larison Lane and 450 feet north of Fox Hunt Road (approximate mileposts 6.88 to 7.02); thence
(G) Zone 7: 45 MPH between 450 feet north of Fox Hunt Road and its northern terminus at Route US 202-Route NJ 31 (end of route) (approximate mileposts 7.02 to 7.46).
