Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 36
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 36 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Monmouth County:
i. In the Borough of Eatontown:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the New Jersey Turnpike Authority-New Jersey Department of Transportation jurisdictional line (Hope Road) (County Route 51) and 1,000 feet south of Wycoff Road (County Route 547) (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 1.08); thence
(B) Zone 2: 50 MPH between 1,000 feet south of Wycoff Road (County Route 547) and the Eatontown Borough-West Long Branch Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 1.08 to 2.56); thence
ii. In the Borough of West Long Branch:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the Eatontown Borough-West Long Branch Borough corporate line and Broadway Boulevard (County Route 537) (approximate mileposts 2.56 to 3.26); thence
(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between Broadway Boulevard (County Route 537) and Oceanport Avenue (County Route 11) (approximate mileposts 3.26 to 3.73); thence
(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between Oceanport Avenue (County Route 11) and the West Long Branch Borough-City of Long Branch corporate line (approximate mileposts 3.73 to 3.87);thence
iii. In the City of Long Branch:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the West Long Branch Borough – City of Long Branch corporate line and the intersection of Joline Avenue-Ocean Boulevard (approximate mileposts 3.87 to 5.72); thence
(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH between the intersection of Joline Avenue-Ocean Boulevard and the City of Long Branch – Monmouth Beach Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 5.72 to 6.36); thence
iv. In the Borough of Monmouth Beach:
(1) For both directions of traffic from October 1 to April 30 annually:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the City of Long Branch-Monmouth Beach Borough corporate line and the Monmouth Beach Borough-Sea Bright Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 6.36 to 8.00); thence
(1) For both directions of traffic from May 1 to September 30 annually:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Long Branch-Monmouth Beach Borough corporate line and the Monmouth Beach Borough-Sea Bright Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 6.36 to 8.00); thence
v. In the Borough of Sea Bright:
(1) For both directions of traffic from October 1 to April 30 annually:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Monmouth Beach Borough-Sea Bright Borough corporate line and Marius Lane (approximate mileposts 8.00 to 8.82); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Marius Lane and 500 feet north of Rumson Road (County Route 520) (approximate mileposts 8.82 to 9.46); thence
(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between 500 feet north of Rumson Road (County Route 520) and the Sea Bright Borough-Highlands Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 9.46 to 11.58) thence
(2) For both directions of traffic from May 1 to September 30 annually:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Monmouth Beach Borough-Sea Bright Borough corporate line and Marius Lane (approximate mileposts 8.00 to 8.82); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Marius Lane and 500 feet north of Rumson Road (County Route 520) (approximate mileposts 8.82 to 9.46); thence
(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between 500 feet north of Rumson Road (County Route 520) and the Sea Bright Borough-Highlands Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 9.46 to 11.58); thence
vi. In the Borough of Highlands:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Sea Bright Borough-Highlands Borough corporate line and 600 feet north of Portland Road (approximate mileposts 11.58 to 11.91); thence
(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between 600 feet north of Portland Road and the southernmost Highlands Borough – Middletown Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 11.91 to 12.36); thence
(2) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the southernmost Highlands Borough – Middletown Township corporate line and the northernmost Highlands Borough – Middletown Township corporate line (Orchard Avenue), except for 30 MPH when passing through the Highlands Elementary School zone, during recess when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 12.36 to 13.14); thence
vii. In the Township of Middletown:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the southernmost Highlands Borough – Middletown Township corporate line and the northernmost Highlands Borough – Middletown Township corporate line (Orchard Avenue),, except for 30 MPH when passing through the Highlands Elementary School zone, during recess when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 12.36 to 13.14); thence
(B) Zone 2: 50 MPH between the southernmost Middletown Township – Keansburg Borough corporate line and the Middletown Township – Keansburg Township – Hazlet Township corporate line (Palmer Avenue – Main Street) (County Route 7) (approximate mileposts 20.40 to 20.42); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the northernmost Highlands Borough – Middletown Township corporate line (Orchard Avenue) and 200 feet north of Orchard Avenue (approximate mileposts 13.14 to 13.18); thence
(B) Zone 2: 50 MPH between 200 feet north of Orchard Avenue and 470 feet south of Sears Avenue (approximate mileposts 13.18 to 14.37); thence
(C) Zone 3: 45 MPH between 470 feet south of Sears Avenue and the southernmost Middletown Township - Atlantic Highlands Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 14.37 to 14.46); thence
(D)Zone 4:  45 MPH between the northernmost Atlantic Highlands Borough - Middletown Township corporate line and Leonardville Road (County Route 516) (approximate mileposts 15.36 to 15.39); thence
(E) Zone 5:  50 MPH between Leonardville Road and the southernmost Middletown Township - Keansburg Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 15.39 to 20.40); thence
viii. In the Borough of Atlantic Highlands:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the southernmost Middletown Township- Atlantic Highlands Borough corporate line and the northernmost Atlantic Highlands Borough - Middletown Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 14.46 to 15.36); thence
ix.  In the Borough of Keansburg:
(1) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the southernmost Middletown Township – Keansburg Borough corporate line and the northernmost Keansburg Borough – Hazlet Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 20.40 to 20.63); thence
x.  In the Township of Hazlet:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the Middletown Township – Keansburg Borough – Hazlet Township corporate line (Palmer Avenue – Main Street) (County Route 7) and the Hazlet Township – Keyport Borough corporate line (Waakaack Creek) (approximate mileposts 20.42 to 23.85); thence
(2) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the northernmost Keansburg Borough – Hazlet Township corporate line (Waakaack Creek) and the southernmost Hazlet Township – Union Beach Borough corporate line (Thornes Creek) (approximate mileposts 20.63 to 21.45); thence
(B) Zone 2: 50 MPH between the northernmost Hazlet Township – Union Beach Borough corporate line (Stone Road) (County Route 6) and the Hazlet Township – Keyport Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 22.66 to 23.85); thence
xi.  In the Borough of Union Beach:
(1) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the southernmost Hazlet Township – Union Beach Borough corporate line (Thornes Creek) and the northernmost Hazlet Township – Union Beach Borough corporate line (Stone Road) (County Route 6) (approximate mileposts 21.45 to 22.66); thence
xii.  In the Borough of Keyport:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the Hazlet Township – Keyport Borough corporate line and Route NJ 35 (end of route) (approximate mileposts 23.85 to 24.40).
