Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 439
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 439 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Union County:
i. In the City of Elizabeth:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the southerly end of Route NJ 439 at the Route I-278 Interchange (vicinity of Brunswick Avenue) and South Broad Street except for 25 MPH in the Theodore Roosevelt public school zone during recess or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.32); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between South Broad Street and  Linden Avenue except for 25 MPH in the Theodore Roosevelt public school zone during recess or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 0.32 to 1.60); thence
(C) Zone 3: 25 MPH between Linden Avenue and Route NJ 28 (Westfield Avenue) (approximate mileposts 1.60 to 2.00); thence
(D) Zone 4: 30 MPH between Route NJ 28 (Westfield Avenue) and  the City of Elizabeth – Union Township southerly corporate line (Emerson Avenue) (approximate mileposts 2.00 to 2.43); thence
(E) Zone 5: 35 MPH between the Hillside Township – City of Elizabeth corporate line (Salem Avenue) and the northernmost junction of Route NJ 439 with Route NJ 27 (Newark Avenue) (approximate mileposts 3.48 to 3.95) (end of route); thence
(2) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Elizabeth – Union Township southerly corporate line (Emerson Avenue) and the City of Elizabeth – Union Township northerly corporate line (Decker Avenue) (approximate mileposts 2.43 to 2.59); thence
ii.  In the Township of Union:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Elizabeth – Union Township southerly corporate line (Emerson Avenue) and the City of Elizabeth – Union Township northerly corporate line (Decker Avenue) (approximate mileposts 2.43 to 2.59); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Elizabeth – Union Township northerly corporate line (Decker Avenue) and the Union Township – Hillside Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 2.59 to 2.96); thence
iii.  In the Township of Hillside:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Union Township – Hillside Township corporate line and the Hillside Township – City of Elizabeth corporate line (Salem Avenue) (approximate mileposts 2.96 to 3.48).
