NJ-CRC launches government relations webpage

TRENTON, NJ - The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJ-CRC) has launched a new page on its website dedicated to providing information for and related to municipal governments and their cannabis regulations. The new webpage features a searchable chart of municipalities that opted into the adult cannabis market, filters municipalities by county, and breaks down the types of business classes each municipality is permitting in their jurisdictions.

The Cannabis Regulation, Enforcement, and Market Modernization Act – the statute enabling adult-use cannabis sales – allows for municipal rule.  Municipalities have the choice to allow or bar all or some categories of cannabis businesses in their jurisdictions. Currently in the portal, 208 of New Jersey’s 564 municipalities listed in the search chart are participating in the adult-use cannabis market. However, the NJ-CRC cannot guarantee that the information is accurate in its entirety. If there is a correction to be made to a specific municipality, please contact NJ-CRC Chief-of-Staff Jesus Alcazar at crc.muni@crc.nj.gov.

"The NJ-CRC aims to be a consistent resource for local municipalities, their leaders, and state legislators in their efforts to make informed cannabis-related policy decisions," said NJ-CRC Chief-of-Staff Jesus Alcazar. "The new webpage also reflects also our commitment to free, fair and equitable access to information for everyone."

The search table data was compiled using self-reported information from municipalities and information gleaned from reviewing municipal websites. The database will continue to see revisions as municipalities inform the Government Relations Office of updates needed - which is encouraged to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date information. Information presented in the table is for information purposes only and may become outdated. Prospective cannabis business license holders should contact municipalities directly for their most current and accurate information about its own adult-use cannabis business license ordinances and laws.

The NJ-CRC Government Relations team serves as a crucial point of contact between the NJ-CRC and the state's legislators and township leaders. For more information on the Government Relations team and to access the municipality chart, visit https://www.nj.gov/cannabis/government-relations/.

The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission establishes and enforces the rules and regulations governing the licensing, cultivation, testing, selling, and purchasing of cannabis in the state.
