The mission of the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) is to advance public safety and promote successful reintegration in a dignified, safe, secure, rehabilitative, and gender-informed environment, supported by a professional, trained, and diverse workforce, enhanced by community engagement.

Since its establishment in 1976, NJDOC has been responsible for maintaining State correctional facilities, as well as the care of incarcerated persons housed within these institutions. The Department operates nine correctional facilities throughout the State, each with a wide variety of programs and services that facilitate rehabilitation and reintegration.
