Pawnbroker


A pawnbroker license is required to lend money on the deposit or pledge of personal property or to purchase personal property on condition of selling it back at a stipulated price.

The governing statute is the New Jersey Pawnbrokers Act, N.J.S.A.45:22‑2 et. seq.

NOTE: Effective September 5, 2006, all applicants for a Pawnbroker license must have corporate officers, directors, partners, members, sole proprietors, and owners of controlling interests (10% or more) complete the New Jersey fingerprinting process.

If you are answering "Yes" to a question contained within application materials pertaining to an Arrest, Indictment or Conviction, you MUST complete an Arrest and Conviction Form (MS Word)
There are series of qualifying questions within the required application materials that require “Yes” or “No” responses. Affirmative responses to some questions and negative responses to others require the submission of additional information.
