Chaplains can provide spiritual guidance, religious referral, and general character guidance in times of an emergency or disaster. The intent of the New Jersey State Police is to provide its members with these services in various religious denominations in their time of emotional need and crisis.
 
State Police Chaplains may be used in ceremonial functions such as funeral and memorial services, academy graduations, religious and civil ceremonies, and as a member of the Critical Incident Team (CIT) in dealing with issues surrounding personal stress and family crisis intervention.
