Janice Kovach - Commissioner

Janice Kovach first won her election as Mayor of Clinton, NJ in November of 2011. Since, she has been re-elected for three more terms, she was sworn in for her fourth term on January 2, 2024. Janice prides herself on using her voice and platform to advocate for her residents and for the residents of other communities in NJ. In 2021 she served as the President of the NJ League of Municipalities representing all 564 cities, towns and villages.

Previously, Janice had been appointed Director of the New Jersey Division on Women in August of 2006 and served until September of 2010. Using her former role in the division, she has continued to work with and advocate for the programs she funded. Janice understands that until women become part of the decision-making process - having "a seat at the table" - they will forever be under-represented in business and government. Janice often volunteers time, training, and mentoring to women who want to run for office; giving them the resources necessary to play in the political arena.

In 2017, along with her business partner, Janice took her passion for film and established the River Town Film Festival, a non-profit in Hunterdon county. The RTFF explores the theme of community through independent films. Each film must encourage conversation surrounding and enhance our understanding of community. She has also worked with the Hunterdon County Economic Development to establish the Hunterdon County Film Commission, which she chairs.

In 2019, Janice was appointed by Governor Murphy and received Senate confirmation as a member of the NJ Motion Picture and Television Commission. Janice assists productions when needed in navigating the world of local NJ government.

Janice has served on various boards and advisory committees such as: Girl Scouts, Heart of NJ and the Women’s Heart Foundation, the United Way Women’s Leadership Council, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of NJ, and the Global Advisory Board for Honor Diaries. She has also served as an executive board member and chair of the Education & Training Committee of the NJ Women’s Political Caucus. She has also served in leadership roles with NatWest Bank and Prudential.

She lives in Clinton with her husband, Stephen, and her Portuguese Water Dogs, Sadie and Reign.
