The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU), and New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) released the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) Strategic Funding Plan: Years 2023 through 2025 on July 19th, 2023. This the second Strategic Funding Plan for New Jersey and identifies four initiatives the Agencies will invest the RGGI auction proceeds in for the years 2023 through 2025. The initiatives are:
These initiatives are aligned with Governor Murphy’s strategic vision for achieving 100 percent clean energy by 2050 and the Global Warming Response Act mandate of reducing state greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent below 2006 levels. The RGGI Strategic Funding Plan: Years 2020 through 2023 was released in April 2020. As a result of the quarterly RGGI auctions, over $372 in RGGI proceeds was received between the years 2020 and 2022. As of May 2023, New Jersey New Jersey has committed $266.5 million in RGGI proceeds to projects and programs that fall within the four funding initiatives outlined in the 2020 Strategic Funding Plan.
