Best Practices

Bike & Walk Audit Kits:  Ever wanted to get the low down on your pedestrian-oriented infrastructure, but didn’t know where to start?  The AARP has some great toolkits for both bike audits and walk audits that are designed for community and stakeholder use. Doing this research lays the groundwork for engaging locals - inspiring real visible and tangible change to enhance public safety, quality of life, and local business success!  Both toolkits are available in English and Spanish. And if you need resources to see these projects through, consider applying for the Community Challenge Grants, listed below.

Featured Grants & Support

Flexible Capital for Businesses: The NJ Capital Access Fund is up and running!  For NJ businesses that have fewer than 50 employees, create annual revenue of $10 million or less, have been in business for at least one year prior to the date of application and can demonstrate the ability to repay the loan through cash flow, this Fund may be a great resource.  The fixed-rate 3-5 year loans of up to $250K may be used for payroll, supplies, rent, utilities, marketing and advertising, and other business expenses. There are no origination fees or prepayment penalties and no specific collateral required. If your businesses want to run the numbers online, they can pre-apply right here.

Closing Costs Covered:  The Main Street Acquisition Support Grant at the NJEDA could help your businesses purchase their building by this grant paying for up to $50,000 of closing costs to move from renting to owning. (And it doesn’t have to be the same building they are currently in!)  This is a pilot grant program; questions and more information can be found by emailing businessbanking@njeda.gov and taking a look at the fact sheet for the grant.

Don’t Miss Out on the AARP Community Challenge Grants: The deadline is March 8th (hence this last reminder), and you can find everything you need to apply here. Grants can range from $500 to $50,000 depending of the scope and type of your placemaking and community enhancement project.  Both non-profits and local government entities may apply!
