Best Practices

NJBAC’s Business Enhancement Services is Online:  Now you can refer to Business Enhancement Services directly online with just a click!  Please favorite the website – it will be expanding over time as we add new resources and tools that support municipal and district revitalization and place-based business enhancement.

Handout for Businesses Opening in a Managed District: This digital handout from Denver, Colorado, is a great example of a pdf take-away that district managers can share with their new businesses. It’s an effective tool that quickly summarizes who your organization is and what it does, as well as acquaint new business owners/operators with events and issues in the district.

Pedestrian Safety & Daylighting – Perfect Together: One of the simplest things your city/town can do to save lives and improve pedestrian circulation is also the most effective — and it starts at the corner: Daylighting.  In NJ, for example, Hoboken has had great success with daylighting intersections. Here an explainer video about daylighting to get you up to speed in just a few minutes!

Inclusive Economic Development: In a new Brookings report the experiences of 11 localities across six states and Washington, D.C. that are pursuing “community-centered economic inclusion”—a model that centers neighborhoods as the key setting for achieving inclusive regional outcomes are examined. The results in the full report provide detailed recommendations for practitioners, public officials, and philanthropies to support and scale these revitalization efforts.

Complete Streets Webinar - Lessons Learned from On-the-Ground Safe Streets Projects: In this free webinar on June 20th by Smart Growth America (SGA), you’ll hear from communities that use quick-build/tactical urbanism and SGA staff as they share what worked, what didn’t, and how those interested in these projects can leverage the experiences from this program to advance street safety in their own communities. The IFS Arts program supports nonprofit arts organizations in addressing the financial and institutional challenges that threaten their stability and in building greater operational capacity.
