NJDOC Welcomes Class 258: 139 New Correctional Police Officers Graduate
Posted on 09/18/2025
A new chapter begins for 139 correctional police officers. On August 12, NJDOC celebrated the graduation of Class 258 at a ceremony held at the Patriots Theater in Trenton. Family and friends filled the seats to honor the 17 weeks of rigorous academic training and physical preparation these new officers completed.
More than just numbers, the class reflects both diversity and dedication. With 126 men and 13 women, the group includes:
- 20 officers with college degrees (6 associate’s, 12 bachelor’s, 2 master’s)
- 7 with military service (1 Air Force, 6 Army)
- 67 from law enforcement families
Graduates represent 18 New Jersey counties—from Cumberland and Essex to Ocean and Union—as well as three New York counties (Bronx, Queens, and Richmond).
Their training covered essential skills: firearms safety, defensive tactics, conflict resolution, trauma informed care, emergency medical response, and criminal law—paired with more than 50 sessions focused on physical conditioning. That foundation was further built upon during two weeks of real-world, on-the-job training in NJDOC facilities.
Starting salaries now begin at approximately $53,200, with senior officers earning up to $118,900, alongside a comprehensive benefits package including health, retirement, education reimbursement, and leave options.
Applications are open for Class 260—training begins March 2026—with Class 259 starting in September 2025. Visit JoinNJDOC.gov to apply.
