TRENTON - Today, Governor Phil Murphy signed A3749 into law, which designates the portion of Interstate Highway Route 195 in the Township of Howell as “State Trooper Marc K. Castellano Memorial Highway.” Howell is where Trooper Castellano lived and gave his life in the line of duty.
“Committed to the service of others, Marc perfectly exemplified our New Jersey values; he was courageous, selfless and a true patriot,” said Governor Murphy. “The loss of Trooper Castellano is yet another reminder of the bravery our law enforcement officers demonstrate each and every day, and this commemoration will ensure that Trooper Castellano’s sacrifice to give his life while protecting the public will never be forgotten.”
"Trooper Marc Castellano earned the admiration of his peers and loved ones through his dedication to serving and protecting the citizens of New Jersey,” said Colonel Patrick Callahan of the New Jersey State Police. "Although Marc was tragically killed in the performance of his duties and will never be forgotten, now there is a permanent tribute to honor and remember his sacrifice."
State Trooper Marc Castellano was a graduate of the 136th class of the New Jersey State Police Academy and was assigned to Troop “C”, where he served on the Tactical Patrol Unit. On June 6th, 2010, Trooper Castellano tragically lost his life in the line of duty when he was struck by a motorist on Interstate Highway Route 195 near the ramp to Exit 31 in the Township of Howell. Trooper Castellano, a loving husband, father, son, and brother, is survived by his two children.
Sponsors of the legislation include Assemblymen Sean Kean and Edward Thomson as well as Senator Robert Singer.
"Trooper Marc Castellano was a dedicated public servant who gave his life while trying to keep the people of New Jersey safe," said Senator Singer. "The signing of this new law to rename a portion of I-195 in his honor will ensure that his sacrifice is never forgotten."
“Renaming this stretch of roadway in Howell after State Trooper Marc Castellano is a way to remember this brave, young, police officer who died while protecting and serving his community. This tribute honors the life and memory of a hometown hero,” said Assemblyman Kean.
“From this day forward, motorists travelling Route 195 will be reminded of the tremendous sacrifice made by Trooper Castellano and his family,” said Assemblyman Thomson. “Designating this section of roadway in honor of Trooper Castellano is a fitting tribute to his selfless devotion to public safety.”
