Governor Murphy, Legislative Leadership Announce Agreement On Broad Outlines Of Legalization Of Adult-Use Marijuana

Governor Phil Murphy, Senate President Steve Sweeney, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, Senator Scutari, and Assemblywoman Quijano announced an agreement on the broad outlines of legislation to legalize adult-use marijuana in New Jersey.

“Legalizing adult-use marijuana is a monumental step to reducing disparities in our criminal justice system,” said Governor Murphy. “After months of hard work and thoughtful negotiations, I’m thrilled to announce an agreement with my partners in the Legislature on the broad outlines of adult-use marijuana legislation. I believe that this legislation will establish an industry that brings fairness and economic opportunity to all of our communities, while promoting public safety by ensuring a safe product and allowing law enforcement to focus their resources on serious crimes.

First Lady Touts Investments In Governor’S Proposed Budget To Combat Maternal And Infant Health Crisis

First Lady Tammy Murphy held a Nurture NJ roundtable discussion at Children’s Futures in Trenton to highlight $1 million in funding in Governor Murphy’s proposed budget to provide doula care service to expectant mothers on Medicaid. The investment will help combat racial disparities in health outcomes for New Jersey mothers and their children.

“Improving health outcomes for mothers and infants of color will need a comprehensive approach,” said First Lady Tammy Murphy. “This $1 million in funding for doula services and programs is just one part of our strategy to help eliminate the racial disparity in maternal and infant care. We have a long way to go in fighting for a stronger, fairer, and healthier New Jersey for every baby, every mother, and every family in this state, and this is just the beginning. I look forward to working with our partners in the Legislature to build support for this budget initiative.”

Governor Phil Murphy Proposes Renewed Brownfields Tax Credit As Part Of Incentives Reform Package

Governor Phil Murphy proposed a renewed Brownfields Redevelopment tax credit program as part of his vision for incentives reform. The Brownfields Tax Credit will serve to close project financing gaps in an effort to revitalize underutilized industrial properties while incentivizing the preservation of New Jersey’s green spaces. 

“The transformational power of New Jersey’s formerly unused, contaminated industrial spaces is evident in South Amboy’s Lower Broadway,” said Governor Murphy. “Our Administration’s reinvigorated Brownfields redevelopment tax credit will tap these vast resources, creating jobs, revitalizing communities, and recapturing the innovative spirit of New Jersey’s history.”

Governor Murphy, Attorney General Grewal Expand Efforts To Inform Public About Gun Crimes By Releasing Data On Firearms Manufacturers

Governor Phil Murphy, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal and New Jersey State Police Colonel Patrick Callahan announced actions designed to increase public awareness about the causes of gun violence in New Jersey by releasing reports on the manufacturers of crime guns found in the state.

“Over the past year, we have been working with the State Police to release GUNStat reports, showing where firearms used in crimes in our state come from,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “Our next step is to show which firearms manufacturers’ weapons are endangering our streets. It is my hope that bringing light to this topic will encourage these manufacturers to act responsibly and work with us to stop weapons they make from ending up in the hands of dangerous criminals. We must continue working to end the scourge of gun violence in our communities.”

Governor Murphy Highlights New Jersey’S Readiness To Support Robust Opportunity Zone Activity

Governor Phil Murphy used the New Jersey Opportunity Zone Summit to demonstrate the State’s preparedness for attracting investment to the 169 Opportunity Zones in 75 municipalities spread across New Jersey's 21 counties.

 “Attracting investment to areas of the state that have been overlooked or perceived by investors as overly risky is key to achieving our goals for a stronger and fairer economy,” said Governor Murphy. “We are working together across state government to help Opportunity Zone communities put their best foot forward as they compete for investment dollars on a national scale.”
