GOVERNOR MURPHY AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OLIVER INAUGURATED FOR A SECOND TERM

Governor Phil Murphy and Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver were sworn in for their second terms in office at the Patriots Theater at the Trenton War Memorial on Tuesday, January 18th.   

"Now, in January 2022, let us make New Jersey the place where the direction of our nation is righted, where the spirit of our nation is restored, and where our common destiny as Americans – regardless of our political party or persuasion – is reaffirmed," said Governor Murphy. "So, together, we embark on a new year – the first of four filled with possibility and promise, and where we continue building on the progress of the past four." 

"I thank the voters of New Jersey for once again putting their faith in Governor Murphy and I to work toward a more equitable and affordable New Jersey," said Lieutenant Governor Oliver. "I assure you that our enthusiasm for, and dedication to all of, the people we serve will not be diminished in our second term."

GOVERNOR MURPHY AND FIRST LADY TAMMY MURPHY WELCOME FIRST LADY JILL BIDEN AND U.S. SECRETARY OF EDUCATION MIGUEL CARDONA

Governor Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy welcomed First Lady Jill Biden and U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona as they visited New Jersey to highlight the American Rescue Plan. First Lady Jill Biden also announced a new round of $198 million in federal coronavirus aid for American colleges and universities to combat the challenges of the pandemic and provide resources for students to stay in school. 

"Removing barriers to student success is something we've been focused on for four years now, and it will continue to be a focus in our administration’s second term, said Governor Murphy. "In this work, we welcome the efforts and support of the Biden Administration, including through the American Rescue Plan, which is enabling us to support our childcare industry to help parents get back to work, prevent evictions and keep families in their homes, remove dangerous lead paint hazards for children, and so much more."

GOVERNOR MURPHY SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER STRENGTHENING COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR WORKERS IN HEALTH CARE AND CONGREGATE SETTINGS AND REQUIRING COVID-19 BOOSTER DOSES

Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 283, requiring covered workers at health care facilities and high-risk congregate settings to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, including having received a booster dose. 

“With the highly transmissible Omicron variant spreading across the country and New Jersey, it is essential that we do everything we can to protect our most vulnerable populations,” said Governor Murphy. “With immunity waning approximately five months after a primary COVID-19 vaccination, receiving a booster dose is necessary to protect yourself and those around you. It is critically important that we slow the spread throughout our health care and congregate settings in order to protect our vulnerable populations and the staff that care for them.”

MURPHY ADMINISTRATION LAUNCHES DEVELOPMENT OF $1 BILLION WATER INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT PLAN

New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette announced the launch of the state’s Water Infrastructure Investment Plan. This innovative effort aims to better understand and resolve water infrastructure challenges plaguing New Jersey communities and utilities through short- and long-term investments that will create good-paying jobs while delivering safe, reliable drinking water, reducing flooding, and improving the quality of New Jersey’s waterways. 

“This Water Infrastructure Investment Plan reaffirms our commitment to modernize New Jersey’s aging water infrastructure and deliver safe drinking water to our residents,” said Governor Murphy. “This once-in-a-generation opportunity allows New Jerseyans to participate in the planning process to shape and better their communities through these investments. I am grateful for the work of President Biden and our Congressional delegation to ensure that New Jersey receives billions of dollars for these critical water infrastructure projects while advancing environmental justice.”

GOVERNOR MURPHY SIGNS LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE TO EXPAND HARM REDUCTION EFFORTS AND FURTHER COMMITMENT TO END NEW JERSEY'S OPIOID EPIDEMIC

Furthering his commitment to end the opioid epidemic, Governor Phil Murphy signed a series of bills to combat the state’s opioid crisis and expand harm reduction efforts. The package will build on investments included in the Governor’s budget in recent years to bring services to residents in need of access to clean syringes and prevent transmission of HIV and hepatitis, provide health screenings, and connect individuals to treatment, vaccination, education, and recovery supports. 

“Over the last four years, my Administration has prioritized a comprehensive, data-driven approach to ending New Jersey’s opioid epidemic,” said Governor Murphy. “Harm reduction is a cornerstone of our strategy, and through this legislation, we are paving the way for long-overdue expansion of syringe access and other critical services to help people with substance use disorders stay healthy, stay alive, and thrive."
