NJ’S COLLEGE ACCESS CHALLENGE GRANT: ‘Tools for College Access’ First Day At College The first round of the “First Day at College” program concluded in September of 2014 after 18 all-day campus events and 32 other events at high schools, churches and other locations. Encouraged by the results of the 2014 program, OSHE has renewed the partnership with the Genesis Economic Self-Sufficiency Program in Camden, NJ to provide low-income high school students and adults with exposure to college through a series of First Day at College events in 2015 and 2016. This series of one-day First Day at College events will continue to serve low-income New Jersey high school students and adults throughout the State who are not currently enrolled at an institution of higher education. The one-day First Day at College events will continue to provide an array of activities meant to expose potential students to college through a direct experience. These activities include orientation, campus tours, career guidance, FAFSA workshops and the opportunity to attend a college lecture. The primary goals are to create college awareness in students and to nurture students’ confidence to enroll and succeed in college. Programs will continue to be held on the campuses of non-profit institutions of higher learning in New Jersey. Each event will have a full-day program of activities. It is expected that at least 18 First Day at College events will be scheduled to be held throughout the 2015 and 2016. For more information on upcoming events, please contact Mr. Osaze Gray from the Genesis Economic Self-Sufficiency Program at (856) 963-1311, ext. 103.
