STATEMENT FROM SECRETARY OF HIGHER EDUCATION ZAKIYA SMITH-ELLIS December 21, 2018
The New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (NJOSHE) is hereby releasing documentation on Wenzhou-Kean University furnished by Kean University on November 16, 2018, and November 28, 2018, in response to an NJOSHE request. The documentation includes memoranda of understanding between Kean University and relevant Chinese counterparties, financial documents, and agreements pertaining to the plan for a change of employment to take effect in 2019. NJOSHE staff have reviewed the documentation and consulted with relevant state agencies. NJOSHE will also conduct an internal review of current laws and policies governing oversight of branch campuses to determine whether additional oversight authorities may be appropriate.
