Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Labor is unable to release its regular economic data. In response, NJDOL is utilizing internal administrative data to maintain continuity in public reporting to assist with timely labor market insights. This release represents the Department's commitment to transparency and informed decision-making.
This unemployment claims data does not include those federal employees who have applied for unemployment insurance benefits as a result of recent furloughs. Since the start of the shutdown on October 1, 2025, the Department has received over 1,800 claims from those impacted federal workers, and an additional 1,500 claims from non-federal workers also impacted by the shutdown.
