David's Cookies
Founded in 1979 with just one shop in Manhattan, David’s Cookies has since grown to become one of the best-known cookie brands in the food industry, with over 200 stores worldwide.
Customers include national and regional restaurant chains, independent restaurants, hotels, non-commercial B & I accounts, school systems, colleges and universities, caterers, scoop shops and summer camps. Nationwide, it has a major presence in convenience store chains as well as in-store bakeries of major grocery chains.
Headquartered in Cedar Grove, David’s Cookies’ presence in New Jersey started in 1989 when it opened its first manufacturing facility in 1989. In the past several years, the company looked to increase its New Jersey operations significantly. During this time, NJBAC business advocates worked diligently with the family-owned operation, providing technical assistance throughout the complex permitting process.
In 2025, the years-long effort culminated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Essex County to celebrate the opening of the company’s new 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Cedar Grove.
David’s Cookies was joined by several officials, including Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way, in celebrating the milestone day. Also at the ceremony were NJBAC representatives, who provided significant permitting assistance leading to the expansion of a 60,000 square-foot building to accommodate cold and dry storage and manufacturing, and a new 30,000 square foot building to house corporate offices and additional dry storage.
The new $25 million state-of-the-art site facility, which includes freezer space with a combined capacity of 6,000 pallet slots, and a test kitchen dedicated to research & development, greatly expands the company’s ability to produce and distribute its range of high-quality, preservative-free cookies, cakes and desserts.
Way, who oversees the NJBAC in her capacity as secretary of state, noted what David’s Cookies’ investments in New Jersey meant for the State’s food manufacturing industry.
“You have called New Jersey home for more than three decades and have employed hundreds of New Jersey workers throughout the years, so your presence indeed strengthens our communities and makes Jersey stronger.”
