Railroad-crossing repairs announced for 4th Avenue
in Asbury Park
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detour

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require the closure and detour of 4th Avenue in Asbury Park, Monmouth County.

Fourth Avenue is scheduled to be closed to traffic in both directions at the NJ TRANSIT railroad grade crossing near the intersection of Memorial Drive from 7:00 a.m. Thursday, October 22, until 7 p.m. Thursday, October 29.

• Traffic will be detoured using 3rd Avenue and 5th Avenue.

The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly. The project on 4th Avenue follows a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that was just done on 3rd Avenue.

In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing in Asbury Park, the existing crossing will be replaced with a new concrete crossing and new asphalt approaches. This project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
