About The Position

Lifeguard positions are anticipated at nine swimming areas across the state.While candidates must pass running and swim tests prior to employment, prior experience is not necessary. The State Park Service will train lifeguards in cardiopulmonary resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillators, first aid and other medical matters. Each lifeguard will also receive a U.S. Lifesaving Association certification. State swimming areas open Saturday, May 29.

Starting Salary $18.50 per hour in most areas, oceanfront guards at Island Beach State Park start at $19.50 per hour.

Qualifications
• No previous experience is required.
• Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.
• Applicants under 18 years of age must have an official State Park Service permission slip signed by a parent or legal guardian to participate in lifeguard testing.

About The Position

Maintenance personnel are the backbone of the State Park Service’s summer operations. Applicants can expect to assist full time staff in a variety of tasks including grounds work, lawnmowing, cleaning of facilities, trash removal, park improvement projects, and other general maintenance functions. Trade school students, or those who may have a unique skill set are encouraged to apply for this position. Salaries begin at $16/hour based on experience.

About The Position

Trail Stewards hike and maintain trails while educating visitors on park regulations the the "Leave No Trace" concept. Applicants should be assertive and professional as they will handle intense crowds.

Bass River State Forest, Cheesequake State Park, Island Beach State Park, Round Valley Recreation Area, Stokes State Forest, Wharton State Forest, and Worthington State Forest.

Position Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and able to hike strenuous distances daily.

Trail Stewards must be able to work 40 hours a week, on shifts from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or noon to 8:30 p.m.

About The Position

The State Park Service is expanding its aquatics program this year and will hire Junior Lifeguards at least 15 years old, at $16 per hour. While junior lifeguards cannot perform lifeguard duties for the public until age 16, the position provides a head start on their training.

Position Requirements
Applicants must be 15 years of age and able to work weekends and holidays.

About The Position

Naturalists and History Educators work with park naturalists and historians at interpretive centers to educate visitors. Typical activities include leading or assisting with programs, demonstrating or explaining a craft, and preparing materials. These positions may also be assigned specific projects by their supervisor.
