Public Testimony

The State Board of Education holds public testimony sessions regarding administrative code rulemakings and many other agenda items under consideration. Public testimony topics are based on a schedule and public testimony may not be held every month. A public testimony notice will be issued at least two weeks before a public business meeting if public testimony will be held that month. The State Board of Education also holds open topic public testimony sessions in January, May and September for the public to speak on any educational topic.

Public testimony sessions begin at 2 p.m. and are held in the First Floor Conference Room, New Jersey Department of Education, 100 Riverview Plaza, Trenton, NJ 08625, unless otherwise stated in the public testimony notice.

Anyone who would like to speak during a public testimony session may reserve time by registering online (once on Calendar of Events page, scroll down to find the date for the public testimony session and click on that link) or calling the State Board office at 609-376-9071. Please note that space and time are limited, and registration closes at noon on the Thursday prior to the meeting.

Each person will have five minutes to speak and must bring six copies of their testimony.

Individuals who are unable to be present at a public testimony session may submit written comments on the topic to be considered by the State Board of Education. Written comments may be emailed to stateboardoffice@doe.nj.gov or mailed to the following address:
