New Jersey Department of Education

Student Recognition Program

Program Process

Each spring, the State Board of Education honors students or student groups who have made significant contributions to their schools, communities or families.

Executive county superintendents select students or student groups based on recommendations from chief school administrators in their counties.

The students or teams may be selected from elementary, middle or high school. The achievements recognized are not limited to academics or athletic recognition. This is an opportunity to acknowledge outstanding contributions that otherwise may not be recognized.

  • The school districts provide a one-page profile describing the students or teams and the reasons for their selection.
  • The school districts are responsible for ensuring the students or teams have appropriate chaperones and transportation to the ceremony.
  • The selected students will be formally honored by the Commissioner and State Board of Education at a special recognition ceremony.
