Small Business Enterprise Overview

An SBE, or Small Business Enterprise, is a for-profit small business with less than 100 full-time employees with its principal place of business in New Jersey. The New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (NJDOT) SBE Program is race and gender neutral.

The NJDOT’s Small Business Program has a goal of awarding a total of 25% of the dollar value of NJDOT State funded contracts for construction, goods, and services to eligible small businesses. By registering your small business with the State Small Business Set Aside Program, your company becomes a member of a limited group of vendors eligible to participate in these selected offerings.

Small Business Enterprises may be used to satisfy SBE subcontracting goals on NJDOT construction and professional service contracts. For a firm’s participation to count toward these SBE goals, the firm must be registered as a small business enterprise (SBE) with the New Jersey Department of Treasury’s Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services on or before the date the bid or bid proposal is received and opened by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).
