TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Acting Commissioner Richard E. Constable, III has announced that Carla Harris, best-selling author and Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, will be a featured speaker at the 2012 NJ Governor’s Conference for Women. This year’s conference is slated for Tuesday, May 7-8, at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
At the conference, participants may choose from five subject tracks in scheduling their conference experience. Tracks include: Women in Business, Women, Power & Money, Politics, Personal Development and Health. New this year, within these tracks, attendees can choose from career development and business startup sessions in addition to sessions on leadership, personal finance and healthy living. The session topics and speakers are all designed to provide conference participants with comprehensive practical information and leadership tools to help them succeed.
Reflecting a significant, new personalized focus to the conference, a “one-stop” career and business counseling center will be available all day to job seekers and entrepreneurs in attendance. “NJ Works” will be on hand to provide participants with information on career building and business building. In addition, staff from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development will be available all day to review and critique resumes, check for current job opportunities, and provide feedback. For the entrepreneurs in attendance, representatives from the Business Action Center, the Economic Development Authority, the Small Business Development Centers, and the UCEDC will provide assistance with financing opportunities and business resources.
Carla Harris has been chosen to be one of the featured speakers for the “Women, Power and Money” subject track.
As a Wall Street veteran and New York Times best-selling author, Harris has successfully navigated this male-dominated arena to rise to the top without losing herself and her passions in the process. During her session, entitled “Expect to Win: Proven Strategies for Success,” Harris will openly share some of her pearls of wisdom for success. Whether an attendee is an entry-level manager or one step away from the C-suite, they will leave this session with practical tips for taking their career to that next level.
“We are thrilled that Carla Harris will be a featured speaker at this year’s conference,” Acting Commissioner Constable said. “Her hard work and determination has catapulted her to the top in her industry and made her an inspiration to women. She will have much knowledge to impart and insight to share.”
The theme of this year’s conference is “It’s All About You.” It was previously announced that Dr. Lois Frankel, noted author and lecturer, will deliver the keynote address at the conference, with Peggy Noonan, a columnist at The Wall Street Journal, and Donna Brazile, a syndicated columnist and TV political commentator, headlining the opening session.
Attendees are also invited to visit “Passport To A Healthy Lifestyle” Health Fair – a day-long health fair with giveaways and free health services such as blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, exercise demonstrations, nutritional guidance and skin care assessments, and peruse dozens of exhibit tables offering products and services.
