Ari appointed Deputy Commissioner

Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein today named Albert B. Ari as NJDOT’s Deputy Commissioner. Ari, 57, is a 38-year career employee who will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of NJDOT.

"Al’s experience, energy, and knowledge of transportation make him the right person for the job," Weinstein said. "Al has always been a first-rate public servant, and I know the citizens and commuters of our state will be well-served by his appointment as Deputy Commissioner."

Ari has been NJDOT’s Assistant Commissioner of Operations since 1996, where he had responsibility for maintenance, equipment, electrical, and traffic operations. He had previously served as NJDOT’s Northern Region Director since 1991, and before that was Chief of the Bureau of Construction Engineering. Ari began his career with NJDOT’s predecessor, the State Highway Department, in 1961, as an Engineering Aide 2 in the Bureau of Research.

Ari holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Rutgers University. A resident of Mercer County, Ari and his wife, Barbara, have three grown children, two of whom are married, and one grandson.
