Gov. Christie Whitman is declaring a state of emergency today in anticipation of Hurricane Floyd. The state of emergency will empower the state to take appropriate steps in anticipation of the storm. There is a high likelihood that the Governor will order the closing of New Jersey's schools. A decision of school closings will be made by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow.

Gov. Whitman will be available to the media to discuss the declaration at 3:30 p.m. at the Bilingual Daycare Center, 225 West Second Street, Plainfield.
