Registration fee increases
for boats and commercial vehicles
New Code 16 for commercial vehicles
It was announced today by Division of Motor Vehicles Director Diane Legreide that the increased registration fees required by the Legislature, (A2506) for boats and commercial vehicles will go into effect on December 1, 2002.
The commercial vehicle registration fees are dependent on gross vehicle weight (GVW). Boat registration fees are based on the vehicle's length in feet.
Registration renewal notices are mailed out three months prior to their expiration date. This is done to give the customer ample time to complete the transaction as well as an opportunity to renew early and avoid long lines.
The renewal notices for registrations expiring in December 2002, January 2003 and February 2003 will have the current fees indicated on them. All customers who renew these existing registrations by mail will be responsible for the fees indicated on the notice.
All customers who appear in person, to pay for registration renewals or new registrations, at a DMV agency on December 1, 2002 or after will be charged based on the new fees.
New Code 16
This is a registration category established for commercial vehicles engaged in hauling aggregate, including ready-mix concrete, asphalt, stone, gravel, clay and clean fill. The necessary code adjustment must be completed by requesting a change at a DMV agency.
