NJDOT to make Route 47/Chapel Heights
intersection improvements

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation will make intersection improvements on Route 47 and Chapel Heights Road in Washington Township on June 1 st , announced State Transportation Commissioner Jack Lettiere.   The intersection has been plagued with ruts and potholes making stopping difficult, and these improvements will enhance safety on Route 47 and adjacent roads.

"By improving this intersection, we are taking immediate steps to make the roadway safer ," said Commissioner Lettiere.   " Making these improvements is a touchstone of Governor McGreevey's 'Safety First' initiative, and the number 1 priority in transportation policy."   "Safety First" is Governor McGreevey's comprehensive safety initiative that combines engineering, education, and enforcement to make our roads safer.

This $50,000 investment involves milling and paving work and will take one day to complete.   Alternating traffic lanes will be used at the time of construction to ensure traffic flow.   NJDOT will be making additional signalization improvements at a later date.

According to State Senator Fred Madden, "The issue of safety is paramount to those residents who travel that intersection on a daily basis.  These improvements are the first step in that direction."

"Whether it's creating new jobs, stopping sprawl or fixing our roads, we are making sure that New Jerseyans have the quality of life they deserve," said Lettiere. "Not only do these projects translate into safer local streets, they also provide real property tax relief to New Jersey communities."
