NJDOT to reopen
North Bridge Street over I-287 in Bridgewater

(Trenton)– The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the October 22 reopening of the North Bridge Street Bridge over I-287 in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County.

“Replacing the I-287 bridge decks demonstrates the State of New Jersey’s commitment to improving our transportation infrastructure and the quality of life for Somerset County residents and motorists,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.

On Wednesday night, October 22, NJDOT will reopen the new North Bridge Street Bridge over I-287 and remove the existing detour route. On Friday, October 24, NJDOT will begin the removal of the temporary work-zone and sidewalk at the bridge. Single-lane and shoulder closures will be allowed on I-287 overnight on Friday night from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., and on Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. These closures are expected to last approximately one week.

NJDOT replaced the two deteriorated bridge decks over I-287 northbound and southbound in Bridgewater. North Bridge Street has been closed to all vehicular traffic and detoured since the beginning of construction in May, although pedestrian access to the bridge was maintained. Due to the $2.8 million project’s proximity to the Bridgewater Commons Mall, NJDOT completed construction before the Christmas shopping season.

NJDOT installed variable message signs to inform motorists of the closure. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org.
