NJDOT announces completion of intersection improvements at Route 15, Wilson Drive and White Lake Road in Sparta

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Stephen Dilts today announced the completion of the $2.3 million Route 15, Wilson Drive and White Lake Road intersection improvement project in Sparta Township, Sussex County. The project began construction in October 2008.

“NJDOT’s improvements to Route 15, Wilson Drive and White Lake Road will relieve traffic congestion, improve safety and increase quality of life for the residents and businesses of Sparta,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.

Commissioner Dilts toured the newly reconstructed intersection with Sussex County Freeholder Susan Zellman and Sparta Mayor Brian Brady as part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“This project is a perfect example of how state funding can be used to make a difference in our transportation system here in Sussex County,” said Zellman, who also serves as the Chairman of the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, which oversees federal transportation investment in northern New Jersey. “This truly is an example of our limited funds being put to good use for the public’s benefit.”

NJDOT’s state funded project will mitigate capacity and safety concerns on Route 15 at Wilson Drive and White Lake Road. Route 15 at White Lake Road and Wilson Drive previously consisted of two intersections located approximately 170 feet apart from each other. In order to improve safety and congestion associated with turning movements at these intersections, NJDOT realigned the roadways and created a single, signalized four-way intersection on Route 15. In addition, NJDOT added a separate left turn lane at all approaches to the intersection. Approximately 22,305 vehicles travel on Route 15 at this intersection each day.
