Route 40 to be closed for railroad-crossing repairs
in Buena Vista
(Buena Vista) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that a portion of Route 40 (Harding Highway) in Buena Vista will be temporarily closed this week to rehabilitate a Conrail railroad grade crossing.
Route 40 is scheduled to be closed in both directions at the railroad crossing between Main Avenue and Cedar Avenue from 6 a.m. Thursday, June 16 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 17, weather dependent. The following detour routes will be in effect during the closure:
• Route 40 eastbound motorists will take Cedar Avenue (CR 540) to Tuckahoe Road (CR 557) to Millville Road (CR 552) to Route 40.
• Route 40 westbound motorists will take Millville Road (CR 552) to Tuckahoe Road (CR 557) to Cedar Avenue (CR 540) to Route 40.
The detour routes have been coordinated with NJ State Police. Access to businesses and residences along Route 40 will be maintained.
In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing on Route 40, NJDOT will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches. The cost of the work is $116,000.
This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year. Real time traffic information is available at www.511nj.org
