NJDOT announces five emergency repair grants
Municipalities in Burlington, Gloucester and Salem counties benefit from awards totaling $680,538

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced funding for five emergency repair projects in southern New Jersey totaling $680,538.

The Local Aid Infrastructure Fund (LAIF) grants will support bridge, road and drainage system repairs in Wrightstown and Willingboro in Burlington County; in Woolwich, Mantua and Deptford townships in Gloucester County; and in Penns Grove Borough in Salem County.

“We are pleased to be able to offer assistance through our Local Aid Infrastructure Fund to these communities who recently faced unforseen transportation system repair expenses,” said NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson. “NJDOT maintains this reserve fund to help local and county governments respond quickly to emergent situations and assist them with unbudgeted costs.”

The grants include:

• $250,000 to Willingboro for repairs to the Charles Van Sciver Parkway and Pennypacker Drive bridge. The repairs will retard deterioration, preserve structural integrity and extend the useful life of the spans.
• $22,700 to Wrightstown to restore a section of West Main Street which collapsed due to a failed storm sewer pipe.
• $61,000 to Woolwich for emergency repairs made on a collapsed Garwin Road culvert due to an April, 2011 storm.
• $300,000 to Gloucester County to support a priority project to replace the Barnsboro-Blackwood Road Bridge over Mantua Creek in Mantua and Deptford townships.
• $30,000 to Penns Grove Borough to reconstruct a failing portion of Barber Avenue.
