Route 10 to be closed for railroad-crossing repairs
in Hanover
Highway scheduled to be closed in both directions this weekend

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that a portion of Route 10 is scheduled to be closed in both directions to rehabilitate a Morristown & Erie railroad grade crossing this weekend in Hanover Township, Morris County.

Route 10 will be closed to traffic at the railroad crossing between Pine Plaza and Whippany Road at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 2 in the eastbound direction, and at 9 p.m. in the westbound direction. The closure will remain in place until around 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 4.

• Motorists heading east on Route 10 will be directed to take South Jefferson Road to Whippany Road to Route 10 eastbound.

• Motorists heading west on Route 10 will be directed to take Whippany Road to Parsippany Road to Veterans Place to Route 10 westbound.

The detour routes were coordinated with the Hanover Police Department. Access will be maintained to businesses and residential properties on either side of the rail line.

NJDOT will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches to provide a safer and smoother driving surface. The cost of the work is $300,000. This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year on state and local roadways.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information.
