Regional resurfacing contract to repair sections of deteriorated highways in Morris and Union counties

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a regional maintenance resurfacing and roadway repair project in Morris and Union counties.

Beginning this week, NJDOT will mill and repave deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway at numerous locations on four different highways, in this proposed order:

· Route 24 in both directions between I-78 in Springfield and the NJ TRANSIT railroad crossing in Summit, Union County.

· Route 10 westbound between Route 202 in Parsippany-Troy Hills and Ridgedale Avenue in Hanover, Morris County.

· Route 124 in both directions from west of Union Avenue in Madison to the Passaic River in Chatham, Morris County.

· Route 124 in both directions from the vicinity of Short Hills Avenue to Center Street in Springfield, Union County.

· Route 124 in both directions from west of Valley Road to the vicinity of Millburn Avenue (CR 630) in Union Township, Union County.

· Route 46 in both directions at various locations in Rockaway, Denville, Mountain Lakes and Parsippany-Troy Hills, Morris County.

The approximately $10 million contract will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, shoulders and median openings. Curbing and sidewalk upgrades will be made at certain locations as well.

NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Lucas Construction Group, Inc., has begun initial construction activity on Route 24 earlier this week. The work will be performed under the allowable lane closures schedule, maintaining at least one travel lane in at each location during peak travel hours. Access to all businesses will be maintained.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for real-time travel information.
