Traffic congestion anticipated August 1 in connection with major event at MetLife Stadium
Plans are in place to facilitate traffic flow and to provide motorists
with up-to-the-minute information

(Trenton) - Motorists should expect heavy congestion throughout Wednesday, August 1 on travel routes to and from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, Bergen County, as more than 90,000 people head to the stadium for a religious celebration.

Traffic is expected to build during the afternoon and remain heavy through the p.m. peak period as attendees travel to the stadium for an event scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

The department has developed plans to facilitate travel to and from the stadium for the benefit of attendees and for commuters who normally travel through the area. Motorists who can take alternate routes to avoid the area are urged to do so.

NJDOT will keep open all travel lanes on Routes 3, 120 and 17 that would normally be closed in connection with ongoing construction projects until at least 1 a.m. Thursday, August 2.

The Department will closely monitor traffic conditions and will post real-time information on Dynamic Message Signs along regional travel routes and will continually update travel information on www.511nj.org. Travelers can also get updates by telephone by dialing 511.

NJDOT has coordinated traffic plans with the New Jersey State Police, NJ TRANSIT, The New Jersey Turnpike Authority and local law enforcement agencies. NJ TRANSIT Rail service to and from the Meadowlands via Secaucus Junction will be available.

Motorists should be aware that there is a possibility that the event date will be moved to Thursday, August 2, depending on weather forecasts. A decision by event organizers is expected Wednesday morning.
