All lanes on Route 22
eastbound reopened in Scotch Plains

Emergency repairs completed before evening commute

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials this afternoon announced all lanes of Route 22 eastbound near Westfield Road in Scotch Plains have reopened in time for the afternoon commute following emergency repairs.

Two lanes of Route 22 eastbound were closed last night because of flooding from yesterday's deluge of rain in which several inches of rain fell in a short period of time. The flooding caused a section of the asphalt to break up.

NJDOT crews worked overnight to mill and repave a 75-foot section of Route 22 eastbound between Byrd Avenue and Mountainview Avenue, which is just east of Westfield Avenue in Scotch Plains.  Traffic was able to utilize the shoulder to get by while the work was being done.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
