Route 206 resurfacing project
begins tomorrow in Sussex County

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of the Route 206 resurfacing project in Andover, Newton, Hampton, and Franklin in Sussex County.

Starting tomorrow, Thursday, July 21, NJDOT contractor, Schifano Construction Company, will begin a project to resurface and improve an eight-mile stretch of Route 206 from mile post 107.7 to 115.9 in both directions. Work on this project will occur primarily during nighttime hours to minimize the impact on traffic.

The project will include milling and paving, ADA curb and ramp improvements, pedestrian signal installation, guide rail upgrades, and bridge improvements. Work will also include replacing the railing of the Pequest River Bridge and repairing the Paulins Kill Bridge deck.

The $8 million federally funded project is not subject to the shutdown of TTF funded projects. Work will begin at the northern limits of the project and work its way south requiring some shoulder and lane closures. This project is expected to complete in the fall of 2018.

Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
