Route 46 alternating traffic required for
slope stability work in Warren County
Resurfacing project includes soil slope mitigation

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a long-term lane closure with alternating traffic on Route 46 starting this week to allow for slope stabilization and resurfacing along Route 46 in Warren County.

This past weekend, NJDOT’s contractor, Intercounty Paving Associates, LLC., installed temporary traffic signals and barriers to reduce Route 46 from a single lane in each direction, to one travel lane with alternating traffic between Willow Lane in Knowlton and Manunka Chunk Road in White Township, Warren County. The alternating traffic will be managed through a temporary traffic signal and will remain for approximately six months. After the slope stabilization work is complete on Route 46, overnight resurfacing will begin.

The $3.7 million federally-funded resurfacing project, which started construction in September 2016, includes milling and paving approximately five miles of Route 46 eastbound and westbound in Knowlton and White Townships. In addition, the project will provide traffic signal upgrades, new ADA curb ramps and the construction of walls along Route 46 to stabilize the slope. The project is being accomplished in stages and is expected to be completed in late 2017.

Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
