Two railroad-crossing repair projects to be done over the next two weeks in Weymouth, Atlantic County

Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced two separate railroad crossing rehabilitation projects, one at 10th Avenue, and a second 11th Avenues in Weymouth, Atlantic County. Each project will require a two-day closure and detour. In addition, the 9th Avenue railroad crossing will be permanently closed to increase safety in the area.

10th Avenue Crossing
Beginning at 7 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, until 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, the two-way traffic on 10th Avenue, between 9th Avenue and 11th Avenue/CR 669, is scheduled to be closed and detoured at the railroad crossing. 10th Avenue will be open to local traffic only. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach. The following detours will be in place:

  • 10th Avenue eastbound
Vehicles traveling eastbound on 10th Avenue should turn left onto Tuckahoe Road, right onto 11th Avenue/CR 669, right onto South Jersey Avenue, and left back onto 10th Avenue.
  • 10th Avenue westbound
Vehicles traveling westbound on 10th Avenue should turn right onto South Jersey Avenue, left onto 11th Avenue/CR 669, left onto Tuckahoe Road, and right back onto 10th Avenue.

11th Avenue/CR 69 Crossing
Beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, August 20, until 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 21, the two-way traffic on 11th Avenue, between 10th Avenue and 12th Avenue (CR 669), is scheduled to be closed and detoured at the railroad crossing. 11th Avenue will be open to local traffic only. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach. The following detours will be in place:

  • 11th Avenue eastbound
Vehicles traveling eastbound on 11th Avenue should turn left onto Tuckahoe Road, right onto Miller Avenue, right onto South Jersey Avenue, and left back onto 11th Avenue/CR 669.
  • 11th Avenue westbound
Vehicles traveling westbound on 11th Avenue should turn right onto South Jersey Avenue, left onto Miller Avenue, left onto Tuckahoe Road, and right back onto 11th Avenue/CR 669.

The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. The roadway will be reopened if work is completed earlier.

In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Weymouth, Atlantic County, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program that repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
