Route 206 to be closed for culvert repair next week in Princeton

Detours in place for a week

(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a bridge closure requiring Route 206 detours in both directions next week a priority culvert replacement project advances in Princeton.

Beginning at 9 p.m., Thursday, November 8, until 6 a.m. Wednesday November 14, NJDOT’s contractor Marbro Inc., is scheduled to close Route 206 in both directions between Hillside Avenue and Arreton Road to excavate, demolish and replace a culvert over a branch of Stony Brook.

In the fall of 2017, a scheduled inspection, found the 14-foot culvert, built more than 100 years ago, was in need of replacement. Temporary steel plates were installed and paved over until a new culvert could be manufactured and prepared for installation. The $1.9 million state-funded culvert replacement project is replacing the culvert that had missing concrete, scour within the culvert, and was causing ponding on the roadway. The project in expected to be completed in spring 2019. NJDOT will be providing updates as the culvert replacement work advances. The following detours will be in place until the work is complete.

PASSENGER VEHICLE DETOUR:

Route 206 northbound

  • From Route 206 north, make a right onto Ewing Street, turn left onto Mount Lucas Road and turn left onto Herrontown Road, follow to Route 206.

Route 206 southbound

  • From Route 206 south make a left onto Herrontown Road, turn right onto Mount Lucas Road and turn right onto Ewing Street, follow to Route 206.


TRUCK DETOUR:

Route 206 northbound

  • From Route 206 north take I-295 north to Route 31 north, turn right onto County Road 518, follow to Route 206.

Route 206 southbound

  • From Route 206 south, turn right onto County Road 518, turn left onto Route 31 south, and take I-295 south back to Route 206.


Portable variable message signs will provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
