Route 130 lane closure tonight for Doctor’s Creek and Crosswicks Creek bridge improvements in Mercer and Burlington Counties

Traffic shift necessary to move to next phase of construction

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the temporary overnight lane closure of Route 130 northbound right lane to shift traffic barriers into the new Stage 4 construction for the Bridge over Doctors Creek and Bridge over Crosswicks Creek bridge replacement project between Hamilton, Mercer County and Bordentown, Burlington County.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, March 29, until 7 a.m. tomorrow, NJDOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt Co., is expected to temporarily close the right lane on Route 130 northbound between Groveville Road in Bordentown and Church Street/CR609 in Hamilton to shift both lanes of Route 130 northbound to the right lane and shoulder. One lane of Route 130 southbound will be shifted to the southbound shoulder and one southbound lane will be shifted to the northbound side separated by barriers.

The traffic shift will be in place until late summer, and allow for construction to advance on the superstructure improvements and deck replacements for the two bridges.

In addition, the Hogback Road ramp to Route 130 northbound will be closed to all motorists just for tonight and as necessary in the future.

Oversize trucks on Route 130 will be continued to be detoured until summer 2019. The off Ramp from Route 130 northbound to Hogback Road will remain open. The following detour will be in place until late summer 2018. Trucks are not allowed to use Local and County Roads.

Hogback Road ramp to Route 130 northbound Detour:

  • Motorists traveling northbound on Hogback Road to Route 130 will be directed to make a left onto Groveville Road
  • Turn right onto Route 130 northbound

Route 130 northbound / Route 206 Truck Detour:
(Until summer 2019)

  • Trucks traveling northbound on Route 130/Route 206 will be directed onto Route 206 northbound
  • Take Exit I-195 westbound
  • Take exit I-295 southbound to I-195 eastbound
  • To I-195 East Exit 5 to Route 130 northbound

Route 130 southbound Truck Detour:
(Until summer 2019)

  • Trucks traveling southbound on Route 130 will be directed to I-195 westbound
  • Take exit for I-295 southbound
  • Take Exit 56 to Route 130 southbound

NJDOT will provide more information on the schedule of the lane closures as the project advances. During construction, at least one lane on Route 130 traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times.

NJDOT has designed work on the $7.2 million federally-funded Route 130 Bridges over Doctors Creek and Bridge over Crosswicks Creek improvement project to be performed in stages. The project will replace the superstructure and bridge deck on the two bridges. The bridges are located approximately 500 feet apart on Route 130 between Hamilton, Mercer County and Bordentown, Burlington County. The project is expected to be completed in late 2019.

Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
