Railroad-crossing repairs on Route 202 begin tomorrow
in Wayne, Passaic County
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a week-long closure and detour of Route 202/Boonton Turnpike/Mountain View Boulevard beginning tomorrow in Wayne, Passaic County.
Beginning at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, May 30, until 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, Route 202/Mountain View Boulevard will be closed at the railroad crossing between Fayette Avenue and Erie Avenue and detoured in both directions. Route 202 is also known as Boonton Turnpike west of the Pompton River and Mountain View Boulevard east of the river. The following detours for passenger vehicles and trucks will be in place:
Route 202/Boonton Pike northbound car detour
- Motorists wishing to travel northbound on Route 202/Boonton Pike will be directed to turn right onto Fayette Avenue
- Turn right onto Fairfield Avenue
- Turn left immediately onto Demarest Avenue
- Turn left onto the West Belt Parkway
- Take the ramp to Route 23 northbound, which becomes Route 202 northbound
Route 202/Boonton Pike southbound car detour
- Motorists wishing to travel southbound on Route 202 will be directed to stay on the service road past the Route 202 southbound exit and take the next right onto Fairfield Road
- Turn right onto Fayette Avenue
- Turn left onto Route 202/Boonton Pike southbound
Truck Detour Route 202/Boonton Pike northbound
- Trucks over 4 tons wishing to travel northbound on Route 202/Boonton Pike will be directed to turn left on Comly Road
- Turn left onto Ryerson Road
- Turn right at the fork onto Lincoln Park Road
- Turn right onto Oak Avenue
- Turn right onto Newark-Pompton Turnpike
- Continue on Newark-Pompton Turnpike to Route 23/Route 202
Truck Detour Route 202/Boonton Pike southbound
- Trucks over 4 tons wishing to travel southbound on Route 202 will be directed to take the Newark Pompton Turnpike exit
- Turn right at the end of the ramp
- Turn left onto Newark-Pompton Turnpike
- Turn left onto Oak Avenue
- Turn left onto Lincoln Park Road
- Turn left onto Ryerson Road
- Stay in the right lane and turn right onto Comly Road
- Follow Comly Road to Route 202/Boonton Pike
Truck Detour From Route 46 or I-80 to Route 23 northbound/Route 202 southbound
- Trucks over 4 tons traveling from I-80 or Route 46 on Route 23 northbound wishing to take Route 202 southbound will be directed to continue on Route 23 northbound past the exit for Route 202 southbound
- Continue on Newark-Pompton Turnpike
- Turn left onto Oak Avenue
- Turn left onto Lincoln Park Road
- Turn left onto Ryerson Road
- Stay in the right lane and turn right onto Comly Road
- Follow Comly Road to Route 202/Boonton Pike
This federally-funded project includes the replacement of the existing concrete railroad crossing and asphalt approaches, and is a part of NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program that repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings per year statewide.
The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
