Route 322/Swedesboro Road and CR 551/Kings Highway intersection widening project begins in Woolwich, Gloucester County
CR 551/Kings Highway southbound detour will be in place
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the beginning of a project to widen the intersection of CR 551/Kings Highway and Route 322/Swedesboro Road in Woolwich Township, Gloucester County.
Beginning at 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 26, NJDOT’s contractor, R.E. Pierson, will close the southbound lane of CR 551/Kings Highway between the intersection of Route 322/Swedesboro Road and Garwin Road in Woolwich Township, Gloucester County to begin construction of an additional lane on the roadway near the Route 322/Swedesboro Road intersection. The following signed detour is expected to be in place until the fall:
Route 551/Kings Highway southbound
- Motorists wishing to travel southbound on Route 551/Kings Highway will be directed to turn right onto Route 322/Swedesboro Road
- Turn left onto Paulsboro Road
- Turn right onto Route 551/Kings Highway southbound
Following the completion of this stage of the project, the northbound lane of Route 551/Kings Highway will be closed in the same area to facilitate construction of an additional lane on that side of the roadway.
When work is complete on CR 551/Kings Highway, additional lanes will be added on Route 322/Swedesboro Road in the vicinity of the intersection. NJDOT will provide advance notice before any additional lane closures or detours are implemented as a part of this $5.6 million federally-funded project.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
