Route 46 pavement preservation project begins in Washington Township, Morris County

Lane closures necessary for curb and guiderail work

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the beginning of a pavement preservation project on Route 46 between Stiger Street and Sandshore Road/Naughright Road in Washington Township, Morris County.

Beginning at 11 p.m., tonight, September 13, until 6 a.m., Saturday, September 15, NJDOT’s contractor Crisdel Group, will close approximately 1,500 feet of the left lane of Route 46 eastbound near Target Drive/Hearthstone Road to set up construction barriers in preparation for curb reconstruction and guiderail installation.  The area of this closure will shift as the project progresses.

Beginning at 8 p.m., Monday, September 16, until 6 a.m., the following morning, and continuing nightly Monday through Friday, a portion of the right lane of Route 46 westbound will be closed overnight near Sandshore Road/Naughright Road for curb and guiderail work.  The area of this closure will shift as the project progresses.  At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times.  This stage of the project is expected to be complete by fall 2019.

The $8 million dollar state-funded project will extend the pavement life, improve safety and enhance ride quality for motorists.  In addition to milling and paving, the project will make drainage improvements and ADA-upgrades to sidewalks and intersections. The project is expected to be complete by fall 2020.

Variable messaging signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. NJDOT will provide more information before any lane closures are scheduled.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
