Route 1 northbound ramp to Garden State Parkway northbound closed for two nights

Traffic will be detoured overnight in Woodbridge

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the overnight full closure of the Route 1 northbound ramp to the Garden State Parkway (GSP) northbound, as work on a GSP bridge deck replacement project advances in Woodbridge.

Beginning at 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, both tonight, Wednesday, September 18 and tomorrow, Thursday, September 19, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s contractor, Northeast Remsco Construction, Inc., will close the Route 1 northbound ramp to the GSP northbound to allow for shoulder work on the Parkway. The following detour will be in place.

Route 1 northbound to Garden State Parkway northbound Detour:

  • Motorists on Route 1 northbound will be directed to continue straight and go through the traffic signal at Woodbridge Center Drive intersection
  • Stay right and immediately take the Gill Lane/U-turn jug handle
  • From the jug handle, get into the left lane at the fork to make a left onto Route 1 southbound
  • Stay right and take the exit for Garden State Parkway northbound

The bridge work is part of an ongoing NJTA $42.7 million deck replacement contract of six non-major Parkway bridges between Old Bridge and Woodbridge, which began in 2015. Additional lane closures during off-peak hours may be necessary until project completion. NJTA has designed the project to advance with temporary lane closures, reopening after each shift. All lanes will be maintained during the morning and evening commutes. For more information on the project, contact the NJ Turnpike Authority.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
