Route 9 traffic shift begins next week as the Jobs Creek Bridge replacement project advances in Burlington County

Bridge project moves into its final construction stage

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that a traffic shift with a long-term alternating traffic pattern will be implemented next week as the final stage of construction on the Route 9 Bridge over Jobs Creek replacement project begins in Bass River, Burlington County.

Beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, September 30, until 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, NJDOT’s contractor, PKF Mark III, is scheduled to shift traffic and implement an alternating traffic pattern on Route 9 southbound at the Bridge over Jobs Creek onto the newly constructed northbound side of the bridge.

By 7.a.m., Tuesday, October 8, both northbound and southbound traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed Route 9 northbound lane, using an alternating traffic pattern with temporary traffic signals. This will allow for the demolition and reconstruction of the southbound bridge deck. The new traffic pattern will remain in place until the completion of the bridge, which is expected to be summer of 2020.

The $6.2 million federally-funded project is replacing the piles, abutment, beam, deck, parapets, and other improvements to the superstructure, substructure and approaches to the bridge that was in poor condition. Construction will occur in stages, allowing for traffic to be maintained with minimal impact. The new bridge will have wider 12-foot lanes and an eight-foot wide shoulder in each direction. In addition, a section of the roadway curve will be realigned to enhance safety.

Portable variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge replacement. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.
